Sharron Davies - MBE

Sharron Davies MBE occupies a unique position in British life. Since bursting onto the scene as a 13 year old Olympian in 1976, nearly 50 years later she is still a much admired public figure. As a sportswoman, television personality, devoted mother of 3, public speaker, author, enthusiastic charity worker and more, Sharron enjoys a very busy and varied life.

Over the years, Sharron has always had a passion for health and fitness – with a varied programme including weight training, strength and conditioning, cycling, horse riding, skiing and dog walking. She has also suffered several serious accidents and injuries – and the associated surgeries.

A long time user of cold compression therapy to avoid the use of painkillers and opioids, Sharron discovered SQUID GO in May 2024, and we are proud to have her join our Team in the UK, as our Brand Ambassador.

For ex-Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies, staying active isn’t just about maintaining her physical fitness—it’s about mental well-being and reclaiming her quality of life. With a lifetime dedicated to high-level sport, the toll on her body has been significant, and she’s faced multiple operations on her knee and shoulder to address ongoing injuries.

But the challenges don’t end after surgery. "That's the thing that's frustrating," Sharron shares. "We all get a little bit older, but we still want to do the things we used to do—whether that's walking your dog, playing with your grandkids, or even running a half marathon."

For Sharron, the key to keeping up with life’s demands lies in managing the pain in her shoulder, as well as the swelling and inflammation caused by her knee injury. "If I overuse my knee, it starts to swell, and the swelling then limits mobility. I get to the point where I can’t bend it much, and I start walking really badly—hobbling, even," she explains. Relying on painkillers isn’t an option for her. "I don’t want to take stacks of paracetamol or ibuprofen constantly because I worry about what that’s doing to my internal organs."

To reduce pain and maintain her mobility, Sharron turned to compression and cold therapy.

"I’ve had the old-fashioned machines, but they’re bulky, messy, and time-consuming. You have to put ice and water in them, and then clean up afterward. They’re all great, but everything that goes with it puts you off using them."

In May 2024, Sharron discovered Squid Go, and it transformed her recovery routine."It’s not time-consuming at all. I keep it charged up in my utility room, grab it when I need it, (quick connect it to the wrap) get one of my gel packs from the freezer, and put it on. The whole process takes 30 seconds!" (For those of us that are not former elite athletes nor Gladiators, it may take a minute or so to do the same – yet still minimal hassle and you are ready to GO.)

What stands out most for Sharron is the convenience and value. "It’s brilliant—mobility, speed, lack of mess, and ease of use. The machine is solid and simple, without a million buttons. You get four levels of compression, and each session lasts 15 minutes. If I need to, I can go again."

Even with her busy schedule, Squid Go fits seamlessly into her life. "I take it with me in the car. If I’m heading to a job and my knee is causing problems, I can use it on the way or when I arrive. I keep a spare gel pack in a cooler, for added convenience."

For Sharron, the ability to keep moving is priceless. "Physical activity for me is as much about mental health as it is about physical health. Whether it’s working out or just doing day-to-day tasks like gardening, Squid Go will help to return that Quality of Life to you."

With Squid Go, Sharron Davies can continue doing the things she loves—on her terms.
